Calathea

Calatheas… one of my favorite plants. Gorgeous foliage with a bad wrap sheet. They are known as a slightly finicky plant, but I nevertheless a very rewarding plant to care for. I’ve had great success with placing my calatheas near my north facing window with a pebble tray. This allows me to maintain some humidity and as you introduce more plants to your space you will notice how plants take care of each other! Also knowing in the winter months I tend to have the heat on, I added a humidifier for my self and the plants lol . Works like a charm!

Light -

Indirect bright light - north/east-facing windows or shaded south- and west-facing ones, or a few feet back from a unshaded south- or west-facing window.

Temperature & Humidity -

Calathae prefer warmer temperatures , If you place your alocasia on a patio or outdoor area during the late spring/fall, then make sure to bring it back inside well before the temperatures drop below 50 degrees fahrenheit.

  • Avoid placing the plant near an exterior door, drafty window, or in front of an air conditioning or heating vent. These excessive temperature changes will cause foliage damage.

Water-

Check between 7-10 days making sure the top couple of inches of soil are dry.

  • Even consistent moisture is ideal. Alocasia like to partially dry out between waterings, but they do not like to be soggy.

  • Cut back on watering during the colder months if the plant is not actively growing.
